‘When the Woods Went Walking’ is set several hundred years into the
future. The country has been divided into ‘The Foresters,’ who dwell
in harmony with nature in the dense forests that cover the land and
‘The Outlanders,’ who occupy the technologically advanced cities
chief of which is Lucis. The mysterious ‘Wall’ built by the
Outlanders to prevent any communication between the two groups
divides the two communities. One night however the silence of
centuries is broken and two androids or ‘helots’, as they are known
come through the wall and forcibly take a group of foresters back to
Lucis with them.
Luna, Sophie, Noah and Tristan whose parents are among this group
set off along the wall in a bid to rescue them. After many hardships
and strange experiences they are separated. Noah and Sophie are
taken prisoner by the Praetorians an elite group of warriors
constructed by Mefisto and Iago the chief ministers of Lucis. These
warriors however are plotting against the corrupt council that rules
the city. They give Noah and Sophie into the care of Leonidas who
holds the key to the helot’s fight for freedom from the citizens to
whom they are in bondage.
These three make a hazardous journey to the remote frontiers of The
Outlands to meet the exiled Wizambard an eccentric genius and his
manservant Galileo. Sent back across the wall to get advice from the
wise men known as the ‘ermits’ who dwell in the depths of the
forests they ‘lose’ Noah when they are attacked by Iago’s terrible
Medusa craft.
After even more adventures that test their courage and
resourcefulness to the full Sophie, Luna and Tristan are reunited.
They, along with Leonidas, are now sent by the wise ‘ermits’ through
the ‘dark tunnels,’ where they meet the many challenges with
strength, resourcefulness and cunning.
'Despite all the obstacles that are set against them they are able
to free Lucis of its corruption when the forests themselves come to
the aid of love and freedom in a strange and inexplicable way.
